Laure GOUIN-BRAQUEHAIS (1829-1916), attributed to. Exhibition, circa 1855-1860. Stereoscopic daguerreotype finely enhanced in color, produced on a 2/6 quadrangular plate with hammered corners, monogrammed with an FC punch, under a scale, 8.4 x 17.4 cm. Colorized by Laure Braquehais, reassembled under the original glass, according to Serge Nazarieff. Image taken on rue Louis-le-Grand. This is Berthe Marie Joséphine Dehm (1839-1876). A saleswoman in a jewelry boutique, she supplemented her income by posing for photographers. She can be seen in images by Pierre Henri Amand Lefort, for whom she disguised herself as a laundress or milliner. According to Denis Pellerin, she also posed for Léon Constant Lamiche (1833-1877). It may well be that, working with Lamiche, she gradually abandoned her "original modesty". Some of Lamy's photographs were sold on the street by a man named Getting (1856-1901). When he was arrested in the course of his duties, Getting denounced Lamy, who in turn gave the names of several girls, including Joséphine. She never married and died at the Hospice des Incurables on March 14, 1876. Provenance: Serge Nazarieff Collection, Geneva.
