Otto Rudolf SCHATZ (1900-1961). Bad results,... - Lot 292 - Marie-Saint Germain
Otto Rudolf SCHATZ (1900-1961). Bad results, 1954. 14 original watercolor, ink and pencil drawings, 22.6 x 28 cm on view, except for the title vignette, 13.2 x 22 cm. Otto Schatz was a recognized member of the Viennese New Objectivity movement. In 1938, the Nazis imposed several restrictions on his work, including a ban on exhibiting. His escape to Prague did not prevent him from being interned in the Bistritz concentration camp. Freed in 1944, and stripped of everything, he survived the end of the war by producing obscene watercolors, which he sold to Allied soldiers occupying Vienna. According to Klinger (Vol. 11, p. 54): "His erotic watercolors are among the best created in this field in German-speaking countries".
