INDIA. Pahari school, probably Mankot. Two miniatures with erotic scenes, 19th century. Polychrome pigments, gold and silver on paper, 21.5 x 15 cm. These two miniatures each feature an erotic scene, mounted in a blue and pink margin typical of Pahari productions. One shows a couple embracing on the terrace of a marble pavilion, surrounded by many luxurious objects, on a bed covered with fine textiles. On the other, the erotic scene takes place in the courtyard of a palace. In the foreground, a couple is having an orgasm, the male having kept his turban, on a richly ornamented carpet. On the right, sheltered by a pavilion, a woman covered in a light veil seems to be awaiting her turn. Note that the dark color of the fountain water corresponds to the oxidation of the silver.
