Alphonse POITEVIN (1819-1882). Jesus Christ... - Lot 72 - Marie-Saint Germain
Alphonse POITEVIN (1819-1882). Jesus Christ instituting the Eucharist, circa 1850. Photographic transfer on gelatin plate from a daguerreotype, 7.5 x 10.4 cm. Handwritten note on the pass, in violet ink: "Gelatin cliché from the research of Alphonse Poitevin". Louis-Alphonse Poitevin, French chemical engineer and photographer, is rightly considered by his peers to be the third man of photography, on a par with Niépce and Daguerre. He invented a number of photographic processes, including photolithography, the first image-reproducing process, the cyanotype, unalterable charcoal photography and a color printing process using fatty inks.
