Alexandre BERTRAND (1822-1889), attributed to. The Reader, 1853-1854. Stereoscopic daguerreotype finely enhanced in color, produced on 1/3 or 2/6 plate, under its original glass, 8.6 x 16.8 cm. This is Pauline Sophie Lacroix (1839-1914). First arrested in 1857 for posing for François Lepage, she spent a month in Saint-Lazare prison. She was one of the most photographed nude models of the 1850s-60s. She is often seen smiling in her photographs. Provenance: Serge Nazarieff Collection, Geneva. Bibliography: Serge Nazarieff.
