Alexis GOUIN (1799-1855), or Auguste BELLOC (1805-1873), or Eugène THIEBAULT (1826-1880), etc., attributed to. Study of female nude with mirror, circa 1855. Stereoscopic daguerreotype finely enhanced in color, produced on 1/3 or 2/6 plate, 8.8 x 17.3 cm. A decorative element, the mirror behind the model, is present on several daguerreotypes: it appears on the images reproduced by Denis Pellerin in Le Nu stéréoscopique, les modèles et leur histoire, BEA + Polyverlags AG, 2020, pages 84 and 211. The author attributes the image to Eugène Thiébault. It can be seen in Serge Nazarieff, Maison Gouin (maquette), page 31, catalog raisonné no. 27 and Serge Nazarieff, Early erotic photography, page 94. The author attributes the image to Alexis Gouin. However, the metal cup on the table is the same as in the image reproduced in Serge Nazarieff, Early erotic photography, Taschen, 1993, page 172. This time, however, Nazarieff hesitates between Gouin and Belloc for the attribution (see also page 154 and 157 where he mentions the mirror). Provenance: Serge Nazarieff Collection, Geneva.
