Stereoscopic daguerreotype, produced on 1/3 or 2/6 plate, 8.5 x 16.8 cm. Traces of rubbing. In addition to the toxicity of chemistry, the work of a daguerreotypist is not without danger. Following the example of Sieur Malacrida and the widow René, the judgment handed down on July 23, 1851 by the Seine Court of Assizes sentenced "Sieur Jacques-Antoine Moulin, daguerreotypist, to one month's imprisonment and a fine of 100 francs". Félix Jacques-Antoine MOULIN (1802-1879), attributed to. Two intimate friends, circa 1851. Stereoscopic daguerreotype enhanced in color, produced on 1/3 or 2/6 plate, 8.5 x 17.3 cm. According to Serge Nazarieff, this is a "very agresive pornography that one might imagine was made to order". Moulin was the first photographer to be arrested for vice. The obscene images that justified his arrest had been commissioned by a broadcaster named Malacrida. The descriptions given in the indictment are very similar to this daguerreotype. Félix Jacques-Antoine MOULIN (1802-1879), attributed to. Behind the tall grass, ca. 1855. Stereoscopic daguerreotype finely enhanced in color, produced on 1/3 or 2/6 plate, 8.8 x 16.8 cm. This is Pauline Sophie Lacroix (1839-1914), first arrested in 1857. She spent a month in Saint-Lazare prison for posing for François Lepage. Often smiling in her photographs, she was one of the most photographed nude models of the 1850s-60s. The setting is very similar to that of the image published in Serge Nazarieff, Le Nu stéréoscopique 1850-1930, Filipacchi, 1985, no. 30, reproduced on page 46. Nazarieff attributes...
