THE SOLUTION TO EVERYTHING. Doctor Richardson's magneto-galvanic battery, circa 1900. Medal in iron, brass, copper and zinc, with a cross in the center marked "Richardson's magneto galvanic battery", 4.2 cm in diameter. A medal worn to promote good health, medical galvanism was very fashionable in the Belle Époque. According to the advertising of the time, the medal worn as a necklace enabled "pleasant and curative currents to be developed throughout the body, the intensity of the currents being demonstrable by galvanometer. The battery is excited by simple contact with the body, thanks to the moisture of the skin, aided by natural heat. Immediate relief is provided in all cases both for impaired or hindered nervous actions, as in bronchitis, rheumatism and neuralgia, and in all cases of slow, dormant organic actions, such as general debility, bile weakness and constipation."
