Armand-Albert RATEAU (1882-1938) Bronze... - Lot 291 - Marie-Saint Germain
Armand-Albert RATEAU (1882-1938) Bronze hand mirror with antique brown patina, original bevelled mirror, a small medallion drawing two birds and a large one drawing a character in a naturalist and animal decor 10,20 x 26 cm Bibliography: Franck Olivier and François Rateau of 1992, a baroque at the modern editions of the Amateur in 1992 (medallion with birds p.168-173). Armand-Albert Rateau decorator, architect and also goldsmith, made among other things the decoration of the private apartment of Jeanne Lanvin, around 1920. Rich collectors, businessmen or aristocrats, Rateau's clients were part of the European and American Gotha. His bronze furniture, which went against the grain of the trends of the time, attracted the most refined aesthetes. It was his taste for Antiquity that gave him the idea of using metal for certain chairs with X-shaped legs, and the Orient led him to make extensive use of lacquer, gold or silver lacquer, yellow or brown lacquer.
