[BRASSAI]. Voluptés de Paris. Paris-Publications... - Lot 475 - Marie-Saint Germain
[BRASSAI]. Voluptés de Paris. Paris-Publications [Victor Vidal, 1935]. In-4, 27 x 21 cm, "Volute binding" with five ivory bakelite rings, printed orange cover (publisher's binding). First edition and first printing. After Paris de nuit (1932), Brassaï, enthusiastic, worked on a second opus of nocturnal photographs, which was entitled successively Le Livre de l'amour and Paris intime. But Voluptés de Paris was finally published without his knowledge. The artist retained a bitter memory of this experience. One of the very few copies with 46 images in 24 sheets. Most of the edition actually contains only 38 photographs in 20 sheets, the book having been expunged of 4 images (for fear of censorship?): probably "On the Zone" (p. [10]), "Conversation galante..." (p. [24]), "Hôtel meublé" (p. [38]) and "La volupté défendue de la drogue" (p. [40]). 4 leaves are removed, deleting 8 photos in all. Weakened by the (original?) bakelite rings, some leaves are detached. Cover slightly dusty; on the 4th, the price has been formerly scratched. Bibliography: Aubenas - Bajac, Brassaï ..., 2012, pages 11-26; Brassaï, Lettres à mes parents..., 2000; Bouqueret, Paris..., 2012, pages 136-137, which presents an ex. with 38 images.
