André Robert ANDRÉA DE NERCIAT (1739-1800).... - Lot 333 - Marie-Saint Germain
André Robert ANDRÉA DE NERCIAT (1739-1800). Les Aphrodites ou Fragments thali-priapiques pour servir à l'histoire du plaisir. Basel, Steuben brothers printing house [Brussels, Mertens], 1864. 2 volumes in-8, divided into 8 parts. Volume I 72, 77, 77 and 76 pages. Volume 2: 82, 70, 83 and 83 pages, green half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt edges on the boards, gilt heads, natural edges (period binding). Illustrated with a frontispiece etching by Félicien Rops, 8 etchings by Freudenberg, and enriched with 4 etchings by Rops for an edition of the Tableaux de mœurs du temps. Edition given, according to the bookseller Lehec, by Gay père in October 1864: "Admirably printed and almost impossible to find. "Edition of 200 numbered copies, this one on unnumbered laid paper. The rarity of this edition is due to both typographical and judicial avatars. Many copies, according to Vital Puissant, came off the presses defective, which is not the case here. Moreover, its partial seizure in Paris was at the origin of Jules Gay's conviction on June 2, 1865. Lemonnyer I, 242, Pia 78, G* 118, Bibliothèque Gérard Nordmann, dec. 17, Dutel A-92. Provenance: F. M. Caye, with 2 different bookplates.
