Guy de MAUPASSANT] G. de M. À la feuille... - Lot 347 - Marie-Saint Germain
Guy de MAUPASSANT] G. de M. À la feuille de rose, maison turque, comédie de mœurs (mauvaises) en un acte en prose, first performed in Paris in 1875. René Bonnel and André Bottin] Paris. 1945. Original edition. In-8, of 69 pages and 2 f.n.ch., cover filled in pink paper printed in red. Illustrated with 3 original lithographs in color, one of which is a double windowed lithograph, placed in frontispiece. Limited edition of 225 copies, one of the 160 copies on Ingres. The copies are numbered in the composter. Pascal Pia specifies that the lithographs are the work of an artist from Nice. André Bottin was a bookseller in Nice when René Bonnel moved there to retire. We met his son who was still practicing in 1999 and told us about the realization of this work by his father and Bonnel. In 1978, while writing her bibliography on L'Enfer, Pia was careful not to mention the name of the publisher, whom he knew. Dutel specifies: "Original edition of this free piece that Edmond de Goncourt described as "salauderie", published in Nice in 1945 by André Bottin. It has an unsigned preface by Pierre Borel. ...] The play written by Maupassant and some of his young friends, including Robert Pinchon, was performed twice in Paris by a select committee. The first time on April 13, 1875 in the small workshop of Maurice Leloir, quai Voltaire. Maupassant and Pinchon had several roles. Octave Mirbeau and Maurice Leloir were also part of this troupe. During the second and last performance, on May 31, 1877, in the studio of the painter Becker, 26, rue de Fleurus, the audience included many beautiful people: besides Flaubert and Tourgueniev, who had already seen the play, we noticed Maupassant's father, Émile Zola, Goncourt, etc., and eight elegant women, including Valtesse de la Bigne (Nana), and Suzanne Lagier, the singer of the Alcazar, who left at the end of the first scene... ». Pia 1, Hell 1464, Dutel 938.
