Otto Rudolf SCHATZ (1900-1961). Les Caresses,... - Lot 128 - Marie-Saint Germain
Otto Rudolf SCHATZ (1900-1961). Les Caresses, circa 1930. Watercolour drawing, 19 x 24.2 cm. Stamp Nachlass O. R. Schatz on the front. Otto Schatz is a recognized member of the new Viennese objectivity. In 1938, the Nazis imposed several constraints on him, including a ban on exhibitions. His escape to Prague did not prevent him from being interned in the Bistritz concentration camp. Released in 1944, and deprived of everything, he survived the end of the war by producing obscene watercolours that he sold to the Allied soldiers occupying Vienna. According to Klinger (Vol. 11, page 54): "His erotic watercolours are among the best created in this field in German-speaking countries".
