François-Rupert CARABIN (1862-1932). Le Journal, 1898. Silve - Lot 9
François-Rupert CARABIN (1862-1932). Le Journal, 1898. Silver medal, 4.5 cm in diameter, signed R. Carabin. On reverse, inscription: Le Journal. 100, rue de Richelieu. "Le Journal" had the good idea of commissioning a medal, and Carabin's happy audacity served him admirably: three naked young girls, the three virtues of journalism, read a fresh sheet from a press handled, at the very bottom of the medal, by a fourth woman, whose more robust muscles indicate manual effort, an indispensable complement to the cerebral effort symbolized by the other three." C. Saunier, Revue d'Art 1900, page 168. Exhibition: Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts 1898, Paris and 1899, Paris. Bibliography: L'œuvre de Rupert Carabin 1862-1932, Galerie du Luxembourg, 1974. Reproduced and described on page 161 of the catalog - Catalogue de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts 1899 - Catalogue de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts 1898. La Revue d'Art, January 1900. Joint: L'œuvre de Rupert Carabin 1862-1932, Galerie du Luxembourg, 1974 and François-Rupert Carabin 1862-1932, Les Musées de la ville de Strasbourg, 1993.
