JUDAICA. BOXING. Erich SEELIG (1909-1984). Portrait with glo - Lot 309
JUDAICA. BOXING. Erich SEELIG (1909-1984). Portrait with gloves, circa 1935. Vintage silver print, 17 x 12 cm. Stamps on verso: "Erich Seelig, Champion israélite" and "Jeffe Dickson International sports". Erich Seelig was German boxing champion in the middleweight category in 1931 and in the light-heavyweight category in 1933. Because of his Jewish origins, he was stripped of his titles and, in July 1933, the Nazis threatened him with death if he dared to fight again to defend them. Seelig fled to France, but his titles were never restored. He enjoyed a brilliant boxing career in the United States from 1935 to 1940.
