Mantelpiece with : - a white marble and gilt bronze portico clock with columns, the dial signed "Hilgers à Paris". H: 49 cm - a pair of four-light candelabra, one central, in white marble and gilded bronze, decorated with mascarons, chains and acanthus flowers. H: 46 cm France, Late 18th century Mechanism to be re-examined, one bronze and one foot of the clock to be re-fixed, accident to the dial, age and marble wear. The collections of the Petit Palais include a clock by the Horloger Hilgers, inventory number ODUT1421, from the Dutuit collection. A pocket watch is also in the Louvre's collections, number OA 8565. Cornelius and Joseph Hilgers were silversmiths in Paris from the mid-18th century, and their names can still be found on Empire-period clocks.
